INFORMATION FOR ATTENDEES (Please register for the Conference and the Marine Biology Laboratories via this website) History: This series of bi-annual conferences began in 1991, and have been held in various parts of the U.S. and one in Lake Como, Italy. Each conference is held in a smaller venue, usually on the water, and the atmosphere is relaxed and informal. Almost every person attending is expected to present a paper relating to some aspect of neuroprotection, and to participate in discussions during each session. Typical format: Participants are expected to arrive on Sunday afternoon, register and enjoy a welcoming mixer that evening. Check-in after 2:00 pm Sessions begin Monday morning, with two to about six speakers, each giving a twenty-minute presentation on a single topic related to neuroprotection. A short panel discussion, consisting of the speakers during each session, is held and open to questions from any attendee. Subsequent sessions are arranged, by topic – and these may be purely basic research or entirely clinical in nature, or both. Sessions are held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings and afternoons, and Wednesday morning. An evening poster session is held on Tuesday with wine and cheese tasting. There is plenty of room for posters, and they may remain up during the conference until Thursday morning. Checkout by 10 am. A mid-morning and mid-afternoon coffee break is provided, and breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided as part of the venue registration. On the Wednesday afternoon of each conference, a group excursion is arranged; this year being a boat cruise to Martha’s Vineyard and a lobster cookout. These costs are included in Conference registration. EVERY Person attending pays conference registration and lodging expenses, including the officers of the corporation. There are no exceptions. These fees cover reception on Sunday, poster session, outing, and the printed Conference Program giving the titles times of presentation, and other organizing expenses. All sessions are sequential (not concurrent). PUBLICATION: Proceedings of every conference (except the first in 1991) have been published by the New York Academy of Sciences. On this website, you will find the titles of all platform and poster sessions from the 2006 Conference on Mackinac Island. Conference Registration Fees and more information now available- |
